Northeast Ohio Photo Sessions: A Bridal Shoot at an Abandoned Hospital

5:01 AM

I'm so excited to share these pictures with you from the photo shoot I did the other night. SimplyBridal.com was kind enough to loan me a dress for the shoot, and my brother-in-law (a.k.a the groom model in the photos) suggested the coolest site, Molly Stark Park in Louisville.
The Molly Stark Hospital was built in the 1920s and served as a treatment center for patients with tuberculosis. In the 1950s, when TB was no longer a threat, it was converted into a center for the mentally ill, and then eventually closed in 1995. The county parks eventually bought the building and the 35 acre property and turned it into a park. The hospital is entirely boarded up, complete with "No Trespassing" signs and chains on the doors. However, there are many, many broken windows and the locals teenagers spend a lot of their time trying to find ways to sneak in.

The Molly Stark Hospital, like any creepy old abandoned building, is said to be haunted, but who knows. It is, however, hauntingly beautiful, with it's arches and tangled crawling ivy, and it was hard trying to suppress the urge to shimmy up a drain pipe into one of the second floor windows; I'm certain that there are some awesome photo opportunities lurking inside. But there are probably some other things lurking too, so we stuck to taking our pictures where it was safe :)

As you'll see, the lovely architecture and creeping ivy made an excellent backdrop for showing off the beautiful gown.

This place...so cool and SO creepily beautiful.

Many thanks to SimplyBridal.com! The lovely gown in the pictures is the Claire, and it is even more beautiful in real life.

A BIG thanks to my models, Rachel and Daniel, who had never even met each other but still managed to pull it off :)
